Using the Java Plug-In
One of the things that really discourages applet developers is the vast difference between the Java Virtual Machines in both Internet Explorer and Netscape. IE's JVM is particularly disheartening because of the many places where it differs from Sun's specifications.
Sun now provides an alternative applet environment called the Java Plug-In. This environment lets you run applets in both Netscape and IE, but using Sun's Java Virtual Machine. You no longer need to worry about odd browser differences. Instead, you use the same JVM that your standalone applications use.
