Although applets are useful for many applications, a few drawbacks make applets less palatable for certain applications. For example, you don't have any control over the caching of your applets. For a small applet, you might not care that the user might need to download the applet frequently. On the other hand, if you have a large applet that might take several minutes to download, you definitely want the applet cached. Unfortunately, you're usually at the mercy of the browser when it comes to caching.
