It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

“Site Reliability Engineering”、通称“SRE Book”の全訳をお届けします。
本書の内容については、「監訳者まえがき」で澤田さんが見事に端的に表現してくださっているので、ここでは繰り返しません。一つだけ強調するなら、本書は持てる技術を組織や人が十分に発揮できるような環境を作り、地道な改善を積み上げていったときにどれほど大きな成果がうまれるのかを描いた書籍であり、読者の皆様が日々扱っているシステムの規模や複雑さがどれほどのものであれ、得られるものはたくさんあると思います。できる限り多くの方々に読んでいただけることを心から願っています。
本書の訳出に関しては、Google内部で使われている言葉も多いことから、通常の技術書以上に訳語の選択に頭を悩ませました。例えばクラスタやサービスを立ち上げることを意味する'turn up'という言葉が出てきますが、これに対する定着した言葉は日本語にはありません。監訳者の皆様とも議論を重ねた上で、本書ではこういった場合にはほぼカタカナ（「ターンアップ」）で訳出しています。error budgetについても「エラー予算」とするか「エラーバジェット」とするかで迷いましたが、後者の表記としました。できる限り近い感じの言葉を当てることも考えましたが、やはり独特のニュアンスがあるケースが多いので、必要に応じて訳注を付けてカタカナで表記しています。どうぞご理解をいただき、雰囲気を味わっていただければと思います。
