It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

「データの完全性」とは何でしょうか？ まずユーザーのことを考えるなら、ユーザーが考えるデータの完全性が、そのままデータの完全性ということになります。
私たちからすれば「データの完全性とは、データストアがユーザーに対して十分なサービスレベルの下で提供すべきアクセシビリティと正確性の基準」と言えるかもしれません。しかしこの定義では不十分です。
例えば、仮にGmailにおけるユーザーインターフェースのバグによって空のメールボックスがあまりに長時間にわたって表示されたとすれば、ユーザーはデータが失われたと信じてしまうかもしれません。したがって、データが実際には失われていなくても、世間はGoogleが責任を持ってデータを管理できるのか疑問に思い、クラウドコンピューティングの存続が危機にさらされることになります。「メタデータのごく一部」を修復する間、Gmailがあまりに長くエラーを表示したりメンテナンスメッセージを表示したりしても、ユーザーからのGoogleに対する信頼は同じように損なわれるでしょう。
データが利用できない期間として「あまりに長い」とはどのくらいの長さなのでしょうか？ 2011年に実際に起きたGmailのインシデント[Hic11]で示されたのは、4日間は長い時間だということです。おそらくは「あまりに長い」と言えるでしょう。後に私たちは、G Suiteにとっては24時間が「あまりに長い」ことの判断基準となる良い出発点だと考えるようになりました。
