2.3 STRESSES ON AN OBLIQUE PLANE

Let us consider a plane stress case in which pz, qxz and qyz are zero. Other stresses acting on an element of unit thickness for this condition are shown in Figure 2.3. For simplicity, the complementary shear stress qxy = qyx may be represented as q. Figure 2.3(a) represents a free body diagram of an element that is removed from a body in equilibrium.
