6.8 SHAFTS UNDER SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Under certain special field conditions, the shafts may have varying cross sections, may be made out of two or more materials and may be subjected to varying torque.

6.8.1 Shafts of Varying Sections

In the case of shafts of different lengths and of different diameters, the torque transmitted by individual sections are calculated first. The strength of the shaft is governed by the minimum value of these torques.
