Why can't I download a song from the iTunes Store?
Consider the following:
No account: The iTunes Store app works only if you've already created an iTunes Store account on your computer.
Wi-Fi needed?: Prior to 2009, you needed a Wi-Fi connection to download music via the iTunes Store app. With an iPhone 3G, you can now use a 3G connection as well.
Although Apple doesn't officially support downloading via an EDGE network, it typically works (although downloads are significantly slower). More generally, with an original iPhone and certainly with an iPod touch (which has neither 3G nor EDGE support), you still need a Wi-Fi connection to download music. Otherwise, ...
