
The Government’s
Current Approach
In the absence of a national or regional
strategy for growth, the onus is on local
authorities to identify the need for new
communities through their Local Plan
processes. These should be guided by
the principles and criteria set out above,
but a lack of resources and pressure to
draft plans at speed mean that this is not
always possible. Without a government
requirement to consider these issues, it is
up to progressive local authorities to take
this approach.
