16 Collage Animation
To someone who adores the drawing process and has a direct link that effortlessly enables their hand to transmit their imagination to the page, collage work probably seems more difficult than just drawing the thing. That’s not me. I learned early on that I was not destined to be a realistic illustrator, but I wanted my ideas to have some verisimilitude, so I fell into photography as a primary art form. When I wanted to bridge the gap between my still imagery—with its basis in noir, fantasy, sci-fi, and pop surrealism—and motion ideas, animating collage style seemed a better fit for me than trying to film something with movie-level special effects.
