Affirmative action: Any program, policy, or procedure an employer implements to correct past discrimination and prevent current and future discrimination in the workplace.

Affirmative action plan: A written affirmative action program that must be adopted pursuant to Executive Order 11246 by any non-construction contractor with fifty or more employees and federal government contracts of $50,000 or more.

Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA): A federal law applicable to employers of twenty or more employees, prohibiting discrimination based on age against employees or job applicants age forty or older (with no upper age limit) in favor of a younger person.
