Reorganize Your People Around Value Streams

You can’t just drop Lean on a traditional (batch) organizational structure and hope to be successful—you will need to make a fundamental change to a value-stream type of structure. As you start your Lean work, determine the new roles (value-stream leader or team leader, for example), consider whom you want to put in these roles, and then announce this to your organization before you begin your first serious kaizen efforts. It doesn’t have to be up and functioning the next day. The important thing is that the organization knows what’s coming.
