Part IIIThe Keys to Success: Leadership and Company Culture
THIS SECTION IS the secret sauce of microbreweries.
When I travel the country, I rarely find breweries that invest financially and time‐wise in their company culture, employee engagement, and creating a great place to work. There are so many valuable reverberating effects of this investment: better service, less turnover, less spillage, fewer mistakes, no lawsuits, and seeing great attitudes in your establishment.
Read that list, then ask yourself: How much more time do you spend on recipe generation? Distribution logistics? Those are valuable, and it's human nature to shy away from those “softer” investments. Why? It makes us look in the mirror as owners and managers, change our behavior, and be accountable for keeping up with something we're not as comfortable with.
Let's get comfortable.
I believe that this section of the book, more than any other, can set your brewery apart in your community. You'll be doing what few have learned to do. A great company culture will change every part of your life for the better.
