Leadership theorizing is often presented as politically neutral; as if it describes leadership “as it is”. However, critical theory (Horkheimer, 1937) tells us that no theory is politically neutral. Every theory is imbued with hidden assumptions and is created from a particular perspective (even though that perspective is often unrecognized).
