Templates for each stage along an innovation journey help people to progress in a structured manner, just like treads on a ladder. In this chapter, we will consider what a template does and we will cover four examples of templates (see Figure 18.1):
Idea napkin: A simple, quick template that captures the core of an idea, including its name, target audience, pain points, features, benefits and a visual representation, to enable fast comparison and brainstorming.
Value proposition: A structured outline that identifies customer pain points, and highlights the gains the innovation offers for the customer.
