Transaction Costs Create “Just-in-Case” Home Lives
Let’s start at home and explore how the current landscape of TxCs shapes the way that people live. The most mundane place in any home is probably the garage or the attic—the repositories of residual things. In the hierarchy of accessibility, the things currently on tables are probably the most accessible, then things within an arm’s reach (e.g., waist level in the kitchen). This is followed by things put away in cupboards or on shelves, then things under beds, until we get to the bottom of the pile: things in the garage and attic.
