Counterpoints are a great way to add a sense a balance to your composition. I think they round out a scene in a way that really completes the final image. Viewers will have more than one thing to look at within the scene, which creates a much more dynamic photo. These counterpoints can’t really be forced in an UrbEx setting, but keep your eye out for locations that offer them.
The graffiti behind the stage and the light pouring in from the ceiling served as great counterpoints to my main subject: the chair.
