You can use just about any lens at a high aperture for detail shots. For these, I usually look for unique items that help tell the story of the place I’m in. Old family photos in abandoned houses, official documents in military structures, and medical supplies in hospitals are all examples of items that help my viewers understand the kind of abandonment I’m in. These artifacts also give the viewer a sense of how old the abandonment is.
Sometimes the smaller elements within an abandonment tell a better story than the elements of a wide shot.
