Pitch decks, also called slide decks, are important tools for fundraising. Along with the pitch (which we explain in the preceding chapter), the pitch deck has become the standard method for conveying information about an investment deal. In the past, people would submit their business plans to VCs for consideration. Now, the digital pitch deck has become the normal communication device for entrepreneurs to share company details with investors.

Your goal with your pitch deck is to convince a VC to engage you in further discussion and due diligence. Your pitch is like a profile on a dating site: You don’t add your entire life history, just enough to get someone to agree to meet for coffee.
