It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Who to Invite to a Postmortem
Make sure the people who know the facts are at the postmortem. That usually means you need the on-call engineers to be present for a postmortem to be useful. If managers are there instead, they need to have the facts at their fingertips and not be there to hide internal problems.
