17.1 Introduction
Volume rendering is used in several disciplines like biomedical imaging and computa-
tional uid dynamics. It allows us to visualize a large amount of data using specialized
algorithms. Several methods have been proposed for visualization of volumetric data
sets including texture slicing, shear warp, splatting, polygonization, and cell projection
[Engel06; Preim and Botha 13].
