Story Listening

It’s amazing how unaware we can be of the stories that run our lives. Whether your story is that “life is like a box of chocolates” or that “life is a bitch and then you die,” you carry your beliefs around in the form of stories and metaphors. If you really want to tell stories that win, first identify and then listen to these stories and metaphors that frame your own reality.

You need to know where you are in order to meet people where they are.

Examine the stories embedded in your mind and environment. You can’t wallpaper a story of hope, trust, and integrity onto disillusioned, stressed-out, and cynical stories. The new stories peel right off again, like water-based paint on enamel.
