3.1.1.1.1.3 Source Address Field e Source Address field iden-
tifies the station that transmitted the frame. Similar to the destination
address, the Source Address field is 6 bytes in length, with the first 3
bytes (actually the last 24 bits in the first three bytes) assigned initially
by Xerox and later by the IEEE to the manufacturer for incorpora-
tion into each NIC’s ROM. e vendor then normally assigns the last
three bytes to each of its NICs or chip sets so that each 46-bit address
is unique. Because the first three bytes are assigned to manufactur-
ers, another term used to reference this subfield is the Manufacturer
subfield.
