Installing the DHCP Server Service
To install the DHCP Server service, take the following steps:
Right-click the Network Neighborhood icon on your desktop, and then click Properties to display the Network property sheet. Click the Services tab to display the Network Services page, shown in Figure 6-1.

Click Add... to display the Select Network Service dialog. Windows NT builds a list of available network services and displays them in the Network Service pane.
Highlight Microsoft DHCP Server and click on OK. Windows NT displays the Windows NT Setup dialog to prompt you for the location of the distribution files. Accept the default location, or specify a new location, and then click Continue. Windows NT copies the distribution files and then displays an informational message.
Note
Any server running the Microsoft DHCP Server service must itself be assigned a static IP address. That is, a DHCP Server cannot obtain its own IP address from another DHCP Server.
Click on OK to close the informational message box and return to the Network property sheet, which now shows Microsoft DHCP Server as an installed service. Click Close to complete the installation. If this server was configured previously to obtain its IP address from a DHCP Server, the TCP/IP property sheet will be displayed, allowing you to enter a static IP address for the new DHCP Server.
