Administering Microsoft Routing and RAS

Installing Microsoft Routing and Remote Access Service automatically installs the Routing and RAS Admin tool and defines interfaces for all installed network adapters. Before you can use Microsoft Routing, you must use the Routing and RAS Admin tool—or the equivalent command line utilities—to specify the routing protocols to be used and add interfaces for them. This section explains each of the tasks needed to configure and administer Routing and RAS.

You can also use the Routing and RAS Admin tool to configure and administer your RAS servers, including RAS servers running earlier versions of RAS. When you manage a RAS server running Windows NT 4.0 RAS or earlier, Routing and RAS Admin automatically invokes the Windows NT 4.0 RAS Admin tool.

Using the Routing and RAS Admin Tool

The Routing and RAS Admin tool looks and works much like the Windows NT Explorer. The left pane displays a hierarchical view of installed network and routing components of the Routing and Remote Access Service. The right pane lists details for the interface selected in the left pane. Run the Routing and RAS Admin tool from the desktop by choosing Start Programs Administrative Tools (Common) Routing and RAS Admin.
