Summary
Microsoft Routing and RAS (RRAS) is an upgrade to the Remote Access Service (RAS) and Multiprotocol Routing service (MPR) bundled with the Windows NT Server 4.0 distribution. RRAS provides minor enhancements to RAS, and a complete overhaul of the primitive routing capabilities provided by MPR. RRAS Routing provides features comparable to a low-end dedicated router, and can be used to provide routing functionality in small branch offices and other situations where installing a dedicated router is not an option.
RRAS includes the Routing and RAS Admin tool to provide unified management of RAS and routing. The Routing and RAS Admin tool replaces the RAS Admin tool used to manage RAS and the command line management used by MPR.
In the next chapter we look at Internet Information Server (IIS), Microsoft’s server-side solution to providing HTTP, FTP, SMTP, and other services to Intranet and Internet clients.
