When to use logistic regression
Logistic regression works great for binary classifiers. Logistic regression doesn't do very well when the data is huge but the quality of the data is not great. It can capture relationships that aren't too complex. While it doesn't usually generate the greatest performance, it does set a very nice benchmark to start.
