Whether you’re starting as a sole practitioner or entering a somewhat established company, understanding how to scale UX research is critical for advancing your team’s UX maturity.
This work doesn’t happen all at once. And while it’s possible to get from zero buy-in to something greater than that, you should acknowledge that some executive willingness is going to be required to move all of this forward. But how do we get to that point?
Identify Current UX Maturity
Talk to people within the organization and figure out what they do now, what they know about UX, and their sentiment toward it. Map your UX maturity model by identifying gaps between where you want to be, what’s missing from the practice, and what is currently happening. There are myriad maturity models; research to find the right one for your practice.
Foster Awareness
Present to stakeholders and provide details about what you do, why you do it, how it’s done, and what value you provide. This “road show” can help identify allies in your endeavor. Keep these people close since they provide valuable outreach throughout the organization.
