Cloud costs can escalate quickly

This is not all sunshine and roses though, as cloud services costs can escalate quickly if not well designed and closely monitored. If an IoT analytics project is designed with cloud services that call other cloud services more frequently than needed, the effect can be dramatic.

For example, consider an AWS Lambda function that checks the stored status of all IoT devices on Amazon IoT Hub using a message queue service. A web developer creates a user interface that calls this function every time a page loads or is refreshed. All three of the services will generate charges each time the function is called.
