It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

By implementing this programming project, students will learn various data mining tech-
niques and NLP techniques as applied to social media.
Scalable Techniques for Anomaly Detection in Social Media. Spamming is prevalent in
social media. In this project, we will identify this type of anomalous behavior that deviates
from the normal/benign case. At the same time, we will carry out this task in real time
with high accuracy and a low false-positive rate. For this, we will utilize unsupervised/
semisupervised learning to model benign characteristics in a big data framework (i.e.,
SPARK, Cassandra, etc.). By carrying out the project, students will learn about various
attacks to social media systems.
