So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

XML, czyli rozszerzalny język znaczników (ang. eXtensible Markup Language), zapewnia standardową metodę kodowania strukturalnych informacji. Język ten definiuje reguły składniowe i strukturalne, dzięki którym aplikacje komputerowe mogą przetwarzać pliki XML nawet wtedy, gdy nie wszystkie dane są dla nich zrozumiałe.
Specyfikacje języka XML są definiowane i rozwijane przez organizację World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Najnowsza wersja języka to XML 1.1 (Second Edition, czyli druga edycja). Najpopularniejszym wydaniem jest jednak XML 1.0 (aktualnie w swojej piątej edycji) i to właśnie ono jest obsługiwane przez wszystkie analizatory składni XML-a. Organizacja W3C stwierdza:
