Videotex(t) is the generic title of the service that provides a user with alphanumeric and graphics type information. This data is distributed either via a telephone or cable network or by a multiplex process within the television broadcast system. In general, videotex(t) data is displayed on a terminal based on the standard TV receiver.
A simplified teletext type of service has been devised in cooperation with the American National Captioning Institute, to provide a service for viewers with impaired hearing. Although this was specifically designed to operate with NTSC receivers, the service can be applied to any PAL or SECAM receiver that is equipped with a digital control microprocessor.
