I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Strategy – how to compete and win
When talking or presenting to HR audiences around the world, one of the recurring questions I am asked is ‘Can good people practice make organizations successful?’ My answer is ‘No.’ It can make them better. It can help them improve, but for any business to be successful it needs to have a clear business strategy and a relentless focus on providing value to its customers.
What has worried me about this question being asked so often is why so many people leaders don’t understand the importance of business strategy; and the very idea that doing exactly the same ‘good practice’ as your competitors is going to give you an advantage is very worrying.
