
Computer interfacing
Within a computer itself the data is transmitted on a set
of parallel conductors, known collectively as the data
bus.
Because all bits of a data word are sent simultane-
ously, the speed of transmission is very much higher than
that for the serial case. The cost is, of course, the greatly
increased complexity of the conductor arrangement or,
in the case of parallel data transmission external to the
computer, the greater cost of cabling.
