Chapter 8Jordan Morrow: Bringing Data Literacy to the World
Jordan is known as the “Godfather of Data Literacy,” helping pioneer and build the field of data literacy as one of the first to bring data literacy to the world. In his career, Jordan helps individuals and organizations realize their data and analytical potential by bringing to light and enhancing skills and strategies in data literacy, and data and analytics in general. When not immersed in data and analytics, Jordan can be found with his large family or trail running the mountains as an avid ultramarathon runner.
Alexander: You are global head of data literacy at Qlik. What is your mission?
Jordan: I feel like my answer has changed over time. In the beginning, my ideas and thoughts were all around helping to train and empower people with skills in analytics. So I set out to build analytical courses with a product-agnostic approach. That was very big for me in the beginning and still is. Data literacy is not about a product, tools, and so on; it is about the person. Setting out and creating courses and materials is essential, so people who do not have a background in data and analytics can succeed in that world.
