By now you will have realized that assertive behaviour is a way of life – a complete philosophy which involves the way you think and feel about yourself and others; the image you portray through non-verbal communication and body language; being able to ‘read’ others and respond appropriately at different times, with different people in different situations.
Until you think positively, and mirror that thinking with posture, gesture and so on, the best of carefully chosen words will be open to misinterpretation, so having explored those other aspects of assertiveness it’s time to look at vocabulary and the construction of assertive statements, questions, requests and directives.
