In This Step, You Will:
- Create a visual representation (e.g., brochure, landing page, storyboard) of your product for potential customers as well as your own team.
- Focus on the benefits of your product created by the features and not just the features.
- Not build the product.
Defining the High‐Level Product Specification at this time gives you a starting point for the solution that will create value for your target customer and also makes sure everyone agrees on what “it” is.
Why This Step, and Why Now?
You can and should do this step now because you have a Persona to guide you in what they would like. You are also clear on what the problem you are solving is thanks to Step 6, Full Life Cycle Use Case. You will need this now to start to quantify our benefits (Step 8, Quantify the Value Proposition), so it logically falls here. Again, this will be a first draft that you continually refine and iterate on, but you need something to keep the process moving. It will also make sure your team has a common agreement on what the current vision of your product is, which will be essential going forward.
