Figure Drawing
It is obviously necessary for costume designers to study and draw the human figure, but truly anyone whose job description includes the ability to draw will benefit from making the effort to become adept at drawing the body. With its myriad moving parts, expressions, and variations among individuals, the human body is a rich trove of readily accessible source material for the artist. Depending on model, pose, and lighting, a figure drawing can look clinically realistic, emotional and expressive, like a landscape, or even completely abstract. If you can proficiently draw the human figure, you can draw anything.
