Example implementation

To better understand these five platforms, we will build a sample end-to-end IoT application on each of the platforms, and then perform the same task on each to see how it differs from the others.

On each of the platforms, we are going to perform following tasks:

  • Integrate the DHT11 sensor with Raspberry Pi 3
  • Send the sensor data to the platform
  • Visualize the data
  • Set thresholds on the data and receive alerts
  • Perform data analysis

To get started, we are going to first setup Raspberry Pi 3 to talk to the internet, then integrate the DHT11 sensor with the Raspberry Pi 3.

In this chapter, to get a feel for the end-to-end data flow, we will transmit data to the ThingSpeak platform.

So let's get started.
