When podcasting was invented in 2004, it wasn’t an immediate sensation. Jason Van Orden recalls the first time he heard the term: “I Googled it, and Google came back with, ‘Did you mean . . . ?’ It tried to correct me. Google didn’t know what podcasting was, either.”
But Van Orden, who had some programming skills, was interested enough to keep digging. “I eventually found a few geek blog posts, talking about MP3 closures and the RSS 2.0 spec or something.” The vibe, he says, was “guys who had just found their dad’s ham radio in a garage.”
