6.4.2 FE-NI-BASED SUPERALLOYS
Fe-based superalloys are also known as Fe-Ni-based superalloys. The major change
in this type of material is to replace Ni with Fe. Lower cost of iron compared to
nickel is the only explanation for the existence of such material. Addition of Cr
increases the oxidation resistance. Mo, Cr help in solid solution strengthening while
Ti, Al, Nb help in precipitation hardening by forming various intermetallic inside
the materials. Addition of Cr and Mo reduces the solubility of Al, Ti and Nb in
