About the Author

Ben Hannam is an award-winning designer, educator, author, and small business owner recognized for his impactful contributions to the field of graphic design. In 2018, he authored Oh @#$% I’m Graduating! A Student’s Guide to Creating a Killer Portfolio, published by Kendall Hunt Publishing, and previously published A Graphic Design Student’s Guide to Freelance: Practice Makes Perfect in 2012 with Wiley Publishing.

Currently, Ben is an associate professor and department chair for the communication design program at Elon University’s School of Communications. Ben brings extensive experience and passion to his role. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design from Old Dominion University in 1996 and his Master of Fine Arts in visual communications from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002.

Ben’s global teaching experience includes instructing graphic design at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar. After three years abroad, he returned to the US to teach at Virginia Tech and later at Elon University. Known for his tactical approach to design and problem-solving, Ben believes that innovative solutions to everyday challenges underscore the value of graphic design and contribute to making the world a better place.
