As we continue to explore the principles of design, the next principles we are going to explore are unity, repetition, rhythm, and proportion. Each of these design principles is a guideline that can be used to inform and guide the designer’s efforts in creating a design solution.

Unity

Unity, also known as harmony, refers to the cohesiveness and consistency of all of the elements in a design composition working together to create a sense of wholeness. Unity ensures that all of the parts in a design solution work together in unison. It’s not uncommon for a graphic designer to have to step back and look at the individual parts of their design and determine if all the elements in their design solution are working together in unison.
