Over the years, I’ve learned that I will save a considerable amount of time and money by planning out my design projects ahead of time. Don’t get me wrong: I love working on the computer and bringing my designs to life, but I’ve realized that understanding project goals, understanding my target audience, and gathering feedback makes my design work better. Working this way often makes me more efficient, too.
In this chapter, you will learn some strategies you can (and should) use to make sure your design solutions hit the mark. After all, how can you hit a bull’s-eye without knowing what you’re aiming at?
In my opinion, a lot of beginner designers rely too much on their intuition and personal tastes to guide their design solutions, but more seasoned designers understand that you first have to clearly define your goals, understand the needs of your target audience, trends, and explore other relevant factors to create a foundation for your design solution before you actually dive into making a design solution.
