Your graphic design portfolio is one of the most useful tools in your arsenal to show potential employers that you can talk the talk and walk the walk. In fact, it’s estimated that over 85 percent of hiring decisions are based on seeing the work in your visual portfolio. That’s huge!

I tell my graphic design students that it is imperative that they put their best foot forward and create a highly creative, relevant, and error-free graphic design portfolio to optimize their chances of landing a job they love. The ten things in this chapter are some of my best pieces of advice for those working on their graphic design portfolios.

Focus on Quality over Quantity

Most portfolios feature 6 to 12 portfolio pieces in total because studies have shown that it’s better to create a portfolio with a lower number of stellar and exceptional portfolio pieces than it is to create a larger portfolio with a mix of stellar and okay pieces in it.
