InDesign is pretty flexible when it comes to the file formats that can be placed into a document. The obvious ones are a given: AI, EPS, PDF, and PSD. InDesign also accepts TIFF, JPG, and PNG. You can easily replace each format with any other format, and you can even edit any of them outside of InDesign and have them update in your document (see page 177).
