Aside from macroeconomics, the other key fundamental that influences market prices is company specific news. This is information about individual companies and how they are performing. While we generally say that companies thrive in a strong economy and suffer in a weak economy, this is a very general statement. In fact, some companies are countercyclical; in other words, they do well in a weak economic environment. An individual company can do well or poorly depending on how it is managed and the industry it is in, irrespective of the general economy. The equity markets in particular focus on company specific news, which is often the main driver of share prices moving up or down.
