IBM—The Company

IBM was incorporated in New York State on June 16, 1911. At the time of

its incorporation, the company was known as the Computing-Tabulating-

Recording Company (C-T-R), the result of a merger of the Computing

Scale Company of America, the Tabulating Machine Company, and The

International Time Recording Company of New York. C-T-R manufac-

tured and sold industrial time recording equipment, commercial scales,

meat and cheese slicers, tabulators, and punched cards.
