server approximately every minute. In Versions 2.5 and 3.0, however, it
appears to never be invoked at all. The idea of this call is a good one: it gives
you a chance to check for changed settings and/or other outside events on a
periodic basis. Since it does not work, however, if you need to do periodic
work, your best bet is to launch a Windows background thread that wakes up
