Buying and sourcing
Central to any retail business is product, and product is sourced and purchased by the buying function. The aim in this chapter is not to forensically examine the buying function and how they operate, but more to look closely at the interaction between buying, merchandising and supply chain, how they operate together, and the impact they have on each other. Buying and merchandising are possibly the most closely linked functions in a retailer. The performance of each function will depend on the collaboration and communication with each other.
