It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Detecting file renames
The ability to rename a file is not supported in CVS, and being able to restore the state of the project when renames have happened is hard. Git uses heuristic rename detection so that it can analyze whether the content or filename are similar. You can also configure this detection in order to copy files.
